Military Metals received a C$100,000 ($71,000) exploration grant for its West Gore antimony-gold project in Nova Scotia. The Government of Nova Scotia awarded the funding from its Mineral Resource Development Fund.
The grant will help fund an ongoing diamond drilling campaign. This campaign includes seven planned drillholes, totaling 1750 meters. Crews will target extensions of the past-producing deposit and the historically exploited Brook Vein.
Military Metals acquired the project in 2024. Historical drilling at West Gore showed grades up to 10.6 grams per tonne gold and 3.4% antimony over 7.1 meters. Antimony is a critical mineral used in ammunition, explosives, and military uniforms.
West Gore was a significant antimony producer during World War One. Historical production from the area is estimated at 7,761 tonnes of antimony concentrate (46% antimony) and 7,149 ounces of gold. Commercial mining ceased in 1917 after a ship carrying concentrate was sunk, leading to the original mining company’s bankruptcy.
