Gold, Silver Prices Rise Slightly But Do Not Erase March Losses

Gold and silver prices increased slightly on Tuesday but did not recover losses from March. This modest recovery followed weeks of stabilization in global energy markets.

Precious metals had faced pressure after hitting record highs earlier this year. Rising oil prices, which briefly pushed gas past $4 a gallon, sparked inflation concerns. This strengthened the U.S. dollar and reduced gold’s appeal as a safe-haven asset.

Fears grew that the Federal Reserve might not cut interest rates. Higher rates typically make non-interest-paying assets less attractive. A London-based metals strategist said, “The market is just adjusting its expectations… the dollar and interest rates are taking over.”

Silver experienced a record drop in March, though its ratio to gold has since narrowed to the low sixties. This suggests improved sentiment for silver and concerns about future growth or supply chain issues. Traders expect quiet weeks ahead of new data on oil, inflation, and central bank statements.

Gold (XAUUSD) trades near $4,576, recovering from a low of $4,099. It remains below a resistance level at $4,606. A sustained move above $4,606 could target $4,725 and $4,856. Immediate support rests at $4,484, then $4,354. Silver (XAGUSD) is around $73.20, having recovered from a sharp drop to $61.08. The metal faces resistance near $74.56, with $71.53 acting as near-term support. A break above $74.56 could lead to $77.80. A drop below $71.53 risks a pullback to $67.50.
