Elliott Investment Management representatives visited Northern Star Resources’ flagship KCGM gold operation in Western Australia this week, sources confirmed.
Elliott disclosed a stake worth over A$1 billion ($700 million) in Northern Star in June. The investor has called for a strategic review and changes to the company’s board and management team. Northern Star has since appointed Suresh Vadnagra as CEO and Jeff Quartermaine as a non-executive director.
This visit followed a separate investor tour that showcased a completed A$1.6 billion mill expansion project at KCGM. The expansion more than doubles plant capacity from 13 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 27 Mtpa. Commissioning for the project began last week.
KCGM produced 467,642 ounces of gold at an all-in sustaining cost of A$2,495 per ounce in the 12 months to June 30, 2026. Northern Star previously forecasted KCGM would produce 900,000 ounces of gold annually at A$1,425 per ounce following the expansion. The company expects to release its 2027 financial year guidance on August 20.
